“The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. 
We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. This is a logical result of the way in which our democratic society is organized. Vast numbers of human beings must cooperate in this manner if they are to live together as a smoothly functioning society.
Our invisible governors are, in many cases, unaware of the identity of their fellow members in the inner cabinet.”

These are the opening paragraphs of the 1928 book entitled “Propaganda“ written by the man considered to be the father of modern Public Relations.  Mr. Bernays, nephew to Sigmund Freud, began his career in earnest working for the Woodrow Wilson administration to manufacture public consent for the U.S. entry into WW I (violating the foremost pledge Wilson promised during his re-election campaign).

Join us for an interactive discussion concerning the various ways in which this widespread practice affects our lives.  We’ll watch a couple of very thought provoking videos, including a segment of a relatively new documentary of the same name.  It promises to be a stimulating and enlightening evening as we examine our perceptions of ourselves and our world in light of the information we’re presented on a daily basis.
