Join the Louisville Esoteric Society on Tuesday May 27, 2014 at 6:30 PM for our next meeting:   Something Unknown Is Doing We Don’t Know What“ presented by Bob Hartye.

This will be a fascinating spiritual journey into the science behind psychic experiences.

Is it possible that some people can read your mind, “Telepathy“ or look into the future, “Clairvoyancy”? Why is it that some people can cure themselves while in the last stages of a deadly cancer, “Healing“? Does mind over matter really exist, and if so, how do we explain this “Telekinesis”?

In the US millions of people claim to ‘see’ distant objects or places “Remote Viewing“. Where is the boundary between ‘real’ magical powers and fraud?  Can these “miracles of the mind” be explained?

These and more questions will be answered in this award winning documentary “Something Unknown Is Doing We Don’t Know What” by Dutch filmmaker Renée Scheltema, who was inspired to explore the realms of psychic phenomena after a series of curious and unexplainable events happened around her all in a short period of time.

She traveled to the US to meet up with the top scientists, para-psychologists, psychologists, physicians, and doctors within the field of research, like Prof Charles Tart, Prof Gary Schwartz, Dr Larry Dossey and Dr Dean Radin. Along the way she collects anecdotal stories from celebrities within the field, such as psychic detective Nancy Myer, author Arielle Ford, astronaut Dr Edgar Mitchell and intuitive Catherine Yunt.

Renée found that experiments of today reveal how science is verifying numerous kinds of connections : ‘mind to mind’; ‘mind to body’ and ‘mind to world’, demonstrating that psychic abilities are part of our inherent nature.

All sincere seekers are welcome.  A $5 donation is suggested.

This will be our final meeting at Westport Road Church of Christ – Community Room, 4500 Westport Road.

LES is moving into our own space in June and we’ll be having an open house on Wednesday June 4 – a week prior to our first meeting in that facility. Save the date! Further details forthcoming.

Directions to our meeting location can be found here.

February 28, 2012 – “Is There a Sixth Sense?” & “A Stroke of Insight”

Join us on Tuesday February 28, 2012 for our discussion group topic, “Is There a Sixth Sense? & A Stroke of Insight“, presented by Janet Rowland.

Is There a Sixth Sense?: Can we perceive beyond the world detected by our five senses? Researchers are diving into the hidden folds of our brains, discovering that the blind can actually see, that thoughts can fly across space and that we all may all be part of a global consciousness. What was once on the fringes of science is moving ever closer to the mainstream.

A Stroke of Insight – Jill Bolte Taylor:  This powerful video is from TED.com. Jill Bolte Taylor got a research opportunity few brain scientists would wish for: She had a massive stroke, and watched as her brain functions — motion, speech, self-awareness — shut down one by one.  She shares the spiritual insight she gained from the experience.  An astonishing story that adds more dimension to the first video we will watch.

Join us at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, February 28, 2012  as we watch one more of the “Through The Wormhole” episodes, narrated by Morgan Freeman, and “Jill Bolte Taylor in A Stroke of Insight.
Please note the doors lock promptly at 6:30, so be sure to arrive a few minutes early.

All sincere seekers are welcome and there is no cost to attend.  All donations are appreciated and are used to help defray LES expenses.

September 13, 2011 Discussion – “Can We “Feel the Future”? Evidence, Arguments and Implications”

Consciousness, ESP/Telepathy 1 Comment »

We had our largest crowd to date on Tuesday September 13, 2011 for our discussion group topic, “Can We “Feel the Future?”  Evidence, Arguments and Implications” – presented by Dr. Keith Lyle.

Dr. Lyle shared with us two experiments developed by a  psychological scientist named Daryl Bem of Cornell University.  Dr. Bem’s results were published in a remarkable paper claiming that people’s behavior in the present is partially determined by events that have not happened yet.  In other words, people can allegedly “feel the future” by some unknown mechanism.  Dr. Lyle discussed the evidence for the claim (including some from his own research), the arguments that have sprung up around it, and the implications if it is true.

Keith B. Lyle is Assistant Professor of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Louisville.  He earned his B.S. from Indiana University, his M.A. and Ph.D. from Yale University, and he was a post-doctoral research fellow at Washington University in St. Louis.  In addition to his faculty duties at UofL, he occasionally consults on criminal cases involving eyewitness memory.

Thanks to Dr. Lyle for sharing this intriquing information with LES!

June 14, 2011 Discussion – “Experiments in ESP (Telepathy) and Psychometry (Vibroturgy)”

ESP/Telepathy 3 Comments »

Wow…we had incredible attendance and participation for our June 14, 2011 discussion group meeting, Experiments in ESP (Telepathy) and Psychometry (Vibroturgy), presented by Janet Rowland!

This LES group discussion was a bit different from past meetings.  The program was divided into two parts; in the first part we learned about Extrasensory Perception (ESP)/Telepathy, then conducted an audience participation experiment.  We had some talented participants with great results!  The experiment was loosely based on the experiments used at Duke University to test for ESP and Telepathy.

In the 2nd half of the program we learned about Psychometry/Vibroturgy, then held an audience participation experiment.  This experiment was based on those conducted at Duke University in Durham, N.C.  Again, we had amazing results from many gifted participants!

Thanks for the full house and everyone’s active involvement!
