August 5, 2015 – Who Are The Mysterious Rosicrucians?

Join us Wednesday August 5,  2015 at 6:30 PM for “Who Are The Mysterious Rosicrucians? presented by Jim Patterson.

During Renaissance Europe in the 16th & 17th centuries an underground movement was afoot to embrace and share knowledge and philosophy in direct conflict with the dogma and control of the Catholic Church. It was the same percolating pot that birthed the Reformation. However, beyond disagreements over church liturgy, this hidden movement encompassed a more secret body of wisdom; it was knowledge that could put you under the scrutiny and punishment of the Inquisition.

In 1614 a mysterious manifesto was published that lit the imagination and enthusiasm of intellectuals everywhere. It professed a secret fraternity . . . an Invisible College . . . one for which you could not apply, but had to be covertly invited. It was a Secret Mystery School called the Fraternity of the Rosy Cross. There were claims of sacred knowledge assembled by the Brotherhood’s founder in the late medieval period – from ancient Egyptian, Greek and Middle Eastern mystery school traditions. Two more manifestos surfaced each consecutive year, fueling the fire of this secret movement.

Europe’s intellectual circles were abuzz with speculation about this sacred brotherhood. Who were they? Where did they meet? What did they discuss and teach? What were their practices? How could one join their circle? Were they even real?

It was in this environment that the Rosicrucian movement was “birthed” – although never operating in the public eye. No formal groups were ever known from this time period. Their members (if they existed) kept their affiliation a total secret. Then in the mid-to-late 1800s and early 1900s various Mystery Schools tied to Rosicrucianism started to appear. Some flopped. Some flourished. Some still exist today.

In this presentation we’ll review the foundations of the Rosicrucians, the original manifestos, famous people tied to the movement, their secret symbols, the modern-era groups and their concepts & teachings.

Join us for a peek behind the doors of the Rose Cross!

May 27, 2015 The Divinity of Numbers and Metaphysics: A Tool for Discovering Truth

Ancient History, Esoteria, Metaphysics, Philosophy Comments Off on May 27, 2015 The Divinity of Numbers and Metaphysics: A Tool for Discovering Truth

Join us Wednesday May 27, 2015 at 6:30 PM for “The Divinity of Numbers and Metaphysics:  A Tool for Discovering Truth”

In this meeting, we’ll continue our study of Philosophy by learning about Pythagoras and his theory about the divinity of numbers.

Pythagoras and his followers proposed that there is a substance in the Cosmos that transcends physical matter and that the structure behind this transcendence is numbers. There’s a great line spoken by Christopher Walken in a movie where he plays the Archangel, Gabriel. We’ve all heard the line before, but Walken’s delivery of it makes it especially memorable, “See you kids. Study ya math. Key to the Universe.” Pythagoreans believed and taught that mathematics, is indeed the key to understanding everything in the Cosmos, including our own existence. They also taught that mathematics is the basis for all harmony and all discord. It is believed that Pythagoras developed or at least formalized the musical scale, using the harmony heard by the human ear as the basis.

What is there? What is reality? Can we know? Do minds actually exist? Are thoughts real? How do we go about answering questions such as those? Pythagoreans believe that Metaphysics is the best tool for discovering the answers. Metaphysics has two branches, ontology and epistemology. Ontology is the branch of metaphysics that deals with the nature of being. Epistemology is the investigation of what distinguishes justified belief from opinion. We’ll learn about both methods and how metaphysics can be helpful in our individual search for Truth.

Note:  Don’t be concerned about the reference to math in the description. No math problems will be harmed (or, solved)  in the making of this presentation!! This presentation will lay the groundwork for other Philosophical topics in the future such as Plato’s Search for Truth!

Hope you’ll join us!

May 13, 2015 – What’s an Esoteric to do?

Esoteria, Metaphysics, Spirituality Comments Off on May 13, 2015 – What’s an Esoteric to do?

Join us Wednesday May 13,  2015 at 6:30 PM for “What’s an Esoteric to do?presented by John Pickard.

Those of us who seek truth, the mysteries of the universe, hidden teachings, and spiritual enlightenment inevitably face a unique challenge:

How do we, as esoteric adherents, cope with living in a world so apparently overrun with negativity, raw materialism, ignorance and sometimes pure “evil“?

How do we pursue and focus on “light” when surrounded by so much “dark“?

Can (or should) we simply ignore the negative and only focus on the positive?

As members of the human community, but seeking below the surface for answers, where should our focus be?

What’s our role and approach while here on this orb?

Do the answers to these questions vary for different esoterians?

We’ll watch a brief video about this challenge then have an open panel discussion of all attendees, giving everyone a chance to share their challenges, wisdom and approach. What works for you? What doesn’t? What challenges have you personally faced on your journey?  Come share, listen and learn among your fellow light workers.

All sincere seekers are welcome.  $10 for pay-as-you-go attendees; No charge for LES pre-pay Members.

September 24, 2013 – The Georgia Guidestones: America’s Mysterious Modern Stonehenge

Esoteria, Megalithic Architecture Comments Off on September 24, 2013 – The Georgia Guidestones: America’s Mysterious Modern Stonehenge

Join the Louisville Esoteric Society on Tuesday September 24, 2013 at 6:30 PM for our next meeting:   The Georgia Guidestones: America’s Mysterious Modern Stonehenge” presented by Jim Patterson.

In 1980 a mysterious set of huge granite stones totaling over 200 tons were erected and astronomically aligned in Elbert County, Georgia. These stones are carved with a set of ten guidelines for humanity in eight different languages. The grouping is sometimes called “American Stonehenge.” The person or group that commissioned these stones to be cut, carved, raised and assembled is still a mystery today.  Who was behind its controversial message? The New World Order? Occultists? The Illuminati? Rosicrucians? Pagans? Freemasons? Or simply someone who wishes to see a new “Age of Reason?”

For this meeting we’ll watch a brand new independent movie never before presented except by its producer Mike Reser.  Then we’ll review the message on the stones, as well as touch on the main concepts presented in the book “Common Sense Renewed” written by the mysterious individual who commissioned the Guidestones – R.C. Christian.

About the film:

The Georgia Guidestones Movie is a documentary film about the Georgia Guidestones of Elbert County, Georgia, an imposing granite monument cryptically inscribed with ten guidelines for mankind in eight different languages. A wealthy benefactor using the pseudonym “R. C. Christian” commissioned this immense monument in 1979, but his true identity remains a mystery.

The Georgia Guidestones have long been the subject of myth and curiosity from both tourists and locals, and the monument provokes reactions ranging from proud to bemused to irate. This one-of-a-kind landmark is ripe for a film treatment that both documents its strange and fascinating history and reveals the talent, history, and varied personalities of the small town that brought it into being and now shares in its fame and notoriety. The producer has striven to ensure that the story of the Georgia Guidestones is documented and preserved in a way that will entertain, educate, and inspire discussion among its viewers and further encourage the current growing interest in this Northeast Georgia treasure.

In examining the creation, placement, and unique features of the Georgia Guidestones, this documentary delves into the most intriguing questions about the Guidestones: Who is R.C. Christian? Why does the monument exist? How did it come into being? Answering these questions takes the film beyond the site of the Guidestones themselves and into the homes and workplaces of a variety of “key players” and sources, as well as into the quarries and stoneworking facilities of Elberton, Georgia, “The Granite Capital of the World.”  The monument’s mysterious conception and physical creation are dual threads of the Guidestones narrative, and these two primary topics interweave throughout the film.

All sincere seekers are welcome.  A $5 donation is suggested.
